Rotary Foundation

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to help Rotarians advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through improving health, supporting education, and alleviating poverty.

It is very important that every Rotarian pays into the foundation so we can receive the grants and continue doing all of the good we do in our community and the world. The Rotary Club of Little River has achieved it’s foundation goal for 2024-2025 by 160%, resulting in a per capita rate of $315.07. We are a 3-Star Club, and have achieved all of our goals and EREY (Every Rotarian Every Year). By achieving these goals, we are able to apply for and receive District grants.

Our Foundation Chairperson is Marty Richardson. If you have questions, please contact Marty at martunes@aol.com

November is Rotary Foundation Month!
Our Foundation Chair, Marty Richardson, and President-Elect, Charlene Dougherty, had a great time creating and leading their very own Rotary Foundation Trivia game. It was a fun, engaging way to learn more about the incredible impact the Rotary Foundation makes both locally and around the world.

Our Club met it’s Foundation Goals1

We have received 2 grants for year 2025-2026.

The Noon Club Grant from the District is for $2500, which was matched by the Rotary Club of Little River in the amount of $2500 for a total investment into the community of $5,000. $1,000 will be used for our Senior Christmas Party. We do an annual Christmas party for Seniors who live independently but under the poverty level. For Christmas 2025 there will be approximately 80 Seniors. We will provide gifts, cash,

refreshments and host a sing-a-long. $4,000 will be used to help the Non-profit, SAVE22 provide a fishing trip for Veterans as a suicide prevention outing. We will also host a dinner for the Veterans and their families, where the Rotarians will be the servers.

The Sunset Edition Grant provided 225 clear backpacks to schools.

This grant was also for $2500 and was matched by the Club for an additional $2500 to purchase and deliver 440 clear backpacks to Riverside Elementary School. Effective 2024-25 school year, students in Horry County Schools were required to carry their books and supplies in clear plastic backpacks. This was done to protect the safety of students in the schools in light of the increased incidence of school shootings nationwide. However, plastic/vinyl backpacks were found to not hold up as well, and tear more easily from wear and tear. It has become a financial burden on many families. Schools need to have a supply of these on hand for students whose families cannot afford to purchase additional ones. Rotarians will deliver these to the schools at the beginning of the school year.
